Fréjus
Roman city along the Var coast
Fréjus is a renowned beach resort, but also a town of art and history, filled with heritage. The city’s history goes back to the Roman era. In 49, Julius Caesar founded this city, located halfway between Cannes and Saint-Tropez. From this period, the city offers a great wealth of heritage, in particular one of the biggest amphitheaters from Gaul, a Roman theatre, ramparts and an aqueduct that brought water from 40 km away. With the recent construction of the Port-Fréjus in the district of Fréjus-Plage, the sea regained a central place in the city.
